Last Call of 2005 - Dwelling

12/31/2005 17:52 - 1466 Georgetown Rd, Bart Township, caller reported basement full of smoke. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived with nothing showing. Deputy 5-1 (LeFevre) established the command. Engine 5-1-1's crew investigated an outside receptacle that burnt up & tripped the breaker at the panel box causing an electrical smell. All units except 5-1 were recalled. Clear 18:15 hrs.

Chimney Fires

12/27/2005 20:13 - 974 Dry Wells Rd, Eden Township, Assist Station 5-7 Quarryville on a dwelling. Chief 5-7-2 (Kreider) arrived on-scene with smoke showing. 5-7 crews found a crack in the flue liner filling the dwelling with smoke & slight extension into the walls. 5-1 units held at the driveway.

12/24/2005 11:57 - 48 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Sadsbury Township, Station 5-1 & Truck 5-7 Quarryville, for smoke in the dwelling, possible chimney fire. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived on scene with a 1 story SFD with light smoke from the chimney. Engine 5-1-1's crew split interior with the TIC & to the roof. Crews found buildup in the chimney box & smoke pipe neck. Crews cleared at 12:31 hours.

Dwelling, Working Fire in the Basement

12/14/2005 05:33 - 4310 White Oak Rd, Bart Township, companies 5-1,5-7 Quarryville & 5-10 Strasburg. LCWC reported a fire in the basement of the neighbors house. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived on scene with a 2 story dwelling heavy smoke from the basement & attic. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived & established Command 5-1. Operations Chief 5-1-2 advised of a working fire in the basement and that all occupants were out of the dwelling. Engine 5-1-1's crew advanced 2 lines. Entry thru the front door to the downstairs, crews encountered heavy fire in the utility room & family room. The other crew forced entry thru the garage doors. The fire was knocked quickly. 2 dogs & numerous cats were rescued from the dwelling. Crews from 5-7 & 5-10 assisted with controlling utilities, laddering the dwelling, ventilation and opening up the 1st floor checking for extensions. Rescue 5-7 had the RIT assignment in the front yard.  Extensive overhaul was needed due to the large amount of contents in the structure. PSP fire Marshall's arrived and investigated the fire. The fire appeared to be electrical in nature.  Units cleared at 07:57 hours.

Cold, Icy Weather Brings Multiple Calls

12/15/2005 13:12 - Engine 5-1-1 transfer to Station 22 West Grove. 14:55 - Move up to scene for manpower assist 327 Rose Hill Rd 2 alarm dwelling. Pics of fire can be viewed at Oxfordfire.com . 15:06 2nd call district -151 Maple Shade Rd, Colerain Township, vehicle accident with entrapment Class 1, Engine 5-1-2, Rescue 5-7. Engine 5-1-2's crew arrived to find 1 confined & removed the door with the combo tool. The snow to rain mixture made for extremely icy conditions for the next 24 hours. 12/16/2005 am - Fire police assisted Quarryville & Cochranville Fire companies with traffic details at various morning accidents. Thanks to all that braved the icy weather.

Engine 5-1-1 Transfers to Cecil County, Maryland Station 8 Rising Sun

12/13/2005 08:48 - Engine 5-1-1 and Engine 5-7-2 were dispatched to relocate to Community Fire Company Rising Sun Maryland Cecil County Station 8.  Station 8 was working a multi-alarm building fire at Mushroom House Automotive 823 Harrisville Rd. Units cleared at 12:48 hours.

11/01/2005 19:47 - Tanker 5-1 relocate Station 21 Oxford, enroute, they were redirected to the fire scene to assist Station 14 Elkton at the Fair Hill Fairgrounds on a working building fire at Routes 273 & 213 in Cecil County, MD.

10/31/2005 20:05 - Tanker 5-1 assist Station 4-8 Ronks 2324 Leaman Rd, East Lampeter Township, 2nd alarm assignment on a working barn fire.

Barn, Fire reported in woodshop saw

10/31/2005 13:22 - 1317 Valley Rd, Bart Township. LCWC reported a 2 story woodworking shop with a table saw on fire.  Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived with nothing showing. Engine 5-1-1's crew led by Captain Fisher checked the structure for extension with the TIC. The occupants hit the fire with an extinguisher. Crews removed the smoldering saw dust from the bottom of the machine & checked the vent dust collection tube for any extension. All units were recalled with the exception of Station 5-1. 5-1 units cleared at 13:49 hours.

10/20/2005 13:11 - Intersection Bartville Rd & White Oak Rd Georgetown Rd, vehicle accident class 2. 2 vehicles 1 into a structure. Engine 5-1-1's crew arrived to find 1 vehicle on the roadway & 1 vehicle into a milkhouse. Engine 5-1-1's crew stabilized the vehicles, controlled hazards & checked the structure. 9/14/2005 19:00 - 939 Georgetown Rd, vehicle accident unknown injuries vehicle into a pole. Engine 5-1-2 covered Engine 5-1-1 (out at the Solanco Fair Parade) and arrived to find 1 vehicle into the pole with wires down. Engine 5-1-2's crew secured the vehicle & controlled hazards. Units cleared at 19:33.

8/7/2005 09:46 - 330 Mt. Pleasant Rd. LCWC advised of a 1 vehicle accident, vehicle on it's side. No injuries reported, Engine 5-1-1's crew contained the fluids & de-powered the vehicle.  Units cleared at 10:10.

7/26/2005 12:36 - 1001 Deaver Rd., Drumore Twp, assist Station 5-8 Rawlinsville on a silo. Engine 5-1-1 transferred to Station 5-7 Quarryville for the standby and then were pulled to the scene for manpower assist on a very hot and humid day. Engine 5-1-1 cleared at 14:21 hours.

6/12/2005 15:49 - 7157 White Oak Rd, Sadsbury Township 1 vehicle on it's side. 2nd call reporting intoxicated patient, uninjured unable to get out. Engine 5-1-1's crew arrived and stabilized the vehicle. The patient was extricated via the rear hatch. PSP arrived to perform their investigation.  Units cleared at 16:41

Building Struck by Lightening

6/6/2005 19:21 - B & S Woodcrafts 501 Furnace Rd, Eden Township, building struck by lightening. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived to find a 50 X 60 3 story woodworking shop with heavy fire from 3rd floor and established the command. Engine 5-1-1 & Truck 5-7 arrived simultaneously. Engine 5-1-1's crew stretched 2 - 2" attack lines to the 2nd floor. Engine 5-1-1's crews knocked the fire from the 2nd floor overlook & attic access panel. Truck 5-7's crew split assisted by Engine 5-7-4's crew threw a ground ladder on side 1 to the 2nd floor window. They gained access to the attic via a fire whole on the second floor to finish extinguishment. Truck 5-7 setup on side 1 & vented the roof. Fire was contained to the front of the 3rd floor attic area. Engine 5-1-2 setup a draft site on Mt. Pleasant Rd & additional Tankers were called due to the possibility of aerial operations. The tankers were then recalled. Crews put salvage tarps on the unfinished wood products on the lower floors. Very little water damage occurred despite the fire area involved. Fire was put under control at 20:01 hours. Remaining 5-1,5-7 & 5-10 crews performed overhaul for another hour. Truck 5-7 installed a tarp over the vent hole. Rescue 4-8 provided the RIT and Ambulance 5-2-1 setup a rehab station. Great job to all companies on the scene. Thanks to the Special Division for the cold drinks on a hot humid night.

5/28/2005 13:40 - 2nd alarm assignment 60 Long Ln. Colerain Twp, full company assist 5-7 Quarryville on a barn. Engine 5-1-1's crew split into RIT & overhaul. Tanker 5-1 shuttled water from the Octorara Reservior where Engine 5-1-2 setup a draft site at the boat launch. Units cleared at 15:07 hours.

Thanks to Christiana Fire Co. Tanker 5-2-1 for handling the standby transfer and handling a 2nd call the district for a Public Service tree across the roadway in front of 254 Christiana Pike, Sadsbury Twp.

Dwelling - Fire on the Stove

4/29/2005 11:26 - 386 Bell Rd, Colerain Township, Dwelling fire on the stove. Engine 5-1-1's crew arrived to find the homeowner had knocked the fire down. The crew checked for extension and ventilated the structure.

4/24/2005 19:08 - Intersection of Route 896 & Windy Top Rd, Sadsbury Township. Engine 5-1-1's crew controlled hazards & secured the vehicle. Squad 5-1 assisted with patient care until the ambulance and medic unit arrived. The patient with ejected from the vehicle & transported to a local hospital.

4/16/2005 13:50 - Full company assist Station 4-7 Paradise 363-G Wolfrock Rd, Paradise Township, on a working brush fire. During this call a 2nd working woods fire came in at 327 S. Belmont Rd at the Paradise Sportsman's club. All units cleared the Wolfrock call at 15:02 and assisted at the S. Belmont Rd call.        17:58 - Tanker 5-1 assist 5-10 Strasburg, 2813 White Oak Rd, Eden Township, Woods, during this call at 18:02 Station 5-1 was dispatched to a vehicle accident at 1110 Georgetown Rd in front of the Bullfrog Inn.

4/13/2005 10:33 - Tanker assist Station 12/22 West Grove, 98 Parsons Rd, Kemblesville, Chester County. Tanker 5-1 was dispatched as part of the tanker task force on a working dwelling. Tanker 5-1 made the 1/2 hour trip down 896 almost to the Delaware State Line. Tanker 5-1 cleared at 12:41 hours. Thanks to Photodog for the pic's of the Tanker. 4/06/2005 16:33 - 315 Market St. Oxford Boro, Standby Transfer Engine 5-1-1. Engine 5-1-1 went enroute with a crew of 8 and was then advised by Chester County Radio to proceed to the scene 610 Market St. Engine 5-1-1 arrived to assist 21 personnel with manpower for overhaul operations. Quarryville Borough dwelling assignment, Engine 5-1-1 & Tanker 5-1 assist Station 5-7 Quarryville.  Chief 5-7 went on-scene with heavy smoke from the chimney.  Truck 5-7 setup on side b and the engine crews went interior to empty the chimney box. Engine 5-1-1 assisted with the chimney kit and Tanker 5-1 held at Station 5-7. 5-1units cleared at 13:41

3/17/2005 08:37 - 2434 Beaver Valley Pike, Providence Twp. Engine 5-1-1 assist Station 5-7 Quarryville. 2 vehicle accident head on collision. 3/14/2005 14:38 - 479 W. Fourth St., Providence Twp. building assignment, Engine 5-1-1 & Tanker 5-1 assist Station 5-7 Quarryville.  Chief 5-1-2 went on-scene with a working shed fire. Engine 5-7-4 dropped a supply line & Tanker 5-7 hooked on. Engine 5-7-4's crew went interior & exterior with attack lines & had the bulk of the fire knocked down within minutes.  Engine 5-7-2 & 5-1-1's crews assisted with overhaul and ventilation. Tanker 5-1 staged on the road. Crews cleared within an hour.

Dwelling Fire Reported in the Chimney

2/24/2005 13:55 - 306 Highland Rd, Colerain Twp. LCWC advised Chief 5-1 that caller has a fire in the chimney and can hear fire in the walls. Chief 5-1 arrived & established the command. Engine 5-1-1's crew went interior with the thermal imaging camera to check for extensions. Engine 5-7-4's crew arrived and assisted in cleaning out the chimney box. Truck 5-7 setup on side D & laddered the extended chimney on side C to clean it out. The incident was placed under control at 14:27.

Assist Christiana -- Milk Truck Overturned with Fire

2/21/2005 07:24 - Intersection of White Oak Rd & Smyrna Rd, Sadsbury Twp. LCWC advised that a tractor and trailer overturned at the intersection and was on fire and leaking it's contents, milk. Engine 5-1-1 arrived and advised LCWC that it was at the intersection of Smyrna Rd & Buck Hill Rd a 5-2 Christiana local box.  Engine 5-1-1's crew extinguished the engine compartment fire & controlled the milk & diesel fuel leak. Chief 5-2 established command and requested Haz-Mat to the scene. Null's towing arrived with 3 tow trucks to upright the milk truck tanker. 5-1 units cleared at 09:46 (Photo's courtesy of www.nullstowing.com )

1/14/2005 04:50 - Intersection of Route 896 & Creek Roads, Colerain Township. Chief 5-1 arrived to find a telephone pole down & trees across the roadway. Patient was transported to a local hospital. The Engine and Squad crews worked on cutting up the 2 downed trees.

2 Vehicle Accident

1/10/2005 21:05 - Intersection of Upper Valley & White Oak Roads, Sadsbury Township. Lt. 5-1-1 went on the scene with a 2 vehicle accident with injuries. Engine 5-1-1's crew stabilized the vehicle, controlled the hazards and popped the passenger side door of the sedan. Squad 5-1 performed patient care.

Building Box (shed)

1/07/2005 22:34 - 315 Bell Rd, Bart Township. Station 5-1, Station 5-7 & Ambulance 5-2-1 were alerted by LCWC of an outbuilding on fire at a woodworking facility.  Deputy 5-1 (LeFevre) went on-scene to find a detached shed with a light smoke condition. Units were held to Station 5-1. The occupants put a hot generator back in the storage shed.  Crews performed overhaul of burnt items an interior walls.
