12/22/2007 19:17 - 66 Lower Valley Rd, Sadsbury Township, dwelling assist Christiana FC. Engine 5-1-1 crews setup lighting, laddered the roof and cleaned out the chimney. Engine 5-1-2 & Tanker 5-1 held on the road.

11/27/2007 17:44 - 16 Heyberger Rd, Bart Township, chimney. LCWC advised the caller sees flames coming from the top of the chimney. Engine 5-1-2 arrived, cleaned out the wood stove firebox and checked the upper floors for extension. Truck 5-7 arrived, setup in the driveway and cleared out the chimney with chains. All units cleared at 18:33 hours. Units on scene: Engine 5-1-2, Tanker 5-1, Squad 5-1 and Truck 5-7
Dwelling, Chimney with Extension
11/04/2007 19:29 - 296 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Bart Township, dwelling. LCWC advised the caller believes fire to be in the chimney. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived to find a 2 story dwelling with a light smoke condition. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived and established the command. Engine 5-1-2's crew observed smoke coming from the interior window sill area. Truck 5-7's crew opened up the wall by the chimney on side Charlie to expose the fire. Crews extinguished the fire and overhauled the wall up the exterior of the chimney. Crews checked the 2nd floor, attic and wash room attic for extension. Truck 5-7 dropped chains down the chimney to clear the blockage and crews cleaned out the firebox. Crews used PPV to ventilate the structure. Units cleared at 20:47. Assist Quarryville on Dwelling Fire
11/01/2007 07:03 - 78 Scotland Rd, East Drumore Township, dwelling, assist Station 5-7, Engine 5-1-2 and Tanker 5-1. LCWC reported a caller in the area of 69 Scotland Rd. reporting smoke from a house. Medic 7-7-9 arrived with smoke showing at 78 Scotland Rd.. Engine 5-7-4 arrived went interior to find heavy, smoke and heat. It was later determined the fire self extinguished. Engine 5-1-2 arrived & assisted with ladders. Investigation, Clogged Chimney
10/25/2007 14:12 - 369 S. Belmont Rd, Paradise Township, for the investigation. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived to find a clogged chimney with a smoke condition in the residence. Engine 5-1-2's crew cleaned out the firebox & ventilated the residence. Crews then laddered the chimney to find it clogged with creosote and bird nests. Units cleared at 15:01
Working Corn Picker and Cornfield Fire
10/22/2007 14:39 - 1 Cherry Hill Rd, Bart Township, LCWC advised of a field on fire. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived to find a corn picker and a corn field on fire. Engine 5-1-2's crews quickly extinguished the fire and were supplied by Tanker 5-1.
Heavy Smoke from the Basement of a Dwelling
10/20/2007 13:45 - 5170 White Oak Rd, Bart Township, LCWC advised the caller stated the basement was full of smoke. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived, confirmed the report and assumed operations. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived and established the command. Engine 5-1-2 arrived took a hand line and TIC to the basement. Crews found a small fire in the corner of the basement. Crews opened the bilco doors and began ventilation of the entire house. Crews found a dehumidifier plugged into an extension cord setting next to a central vacuum system. The dehumidifier appeared to be burnt up from the inside out. The dehumidifier then ignited the plastic central vacuum canister and contents on fire. The smoke charged the central vacuum system sending smoke throughout the house. Luckily, the residents were at home before the fire progressed further. Pickup Truck vs. Tree
10/14/2007 03:54 - 814 Noble Rd, Bart Township, LCWC advised of a 1 vehicle accident pickup vs. tree and the driver's door will not open. Engine 5-1-1 arrived and performed a driver side door pop. Patient was treated by QRS 5-1 and transported via ambulance to a local hospital. Units on-scene: Engine 5-1-1, Engine 5-1-2, QRS 5-1 Amb. 5-2-1, Medic 6-12-10
Tanker & Engine Assist Gap Fire Co. on a Working Barn Fire
10/9/2007 - 4925 Newport Rd, Salisbury Township, LCWC dispatched a working barn fire. Chief 4-2-2 (McGowan) quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm with multiple reports of heavy smoke and working fire radio transmissions. 13:38 Tanker 5-1 was dispatched along with several neighboring tankers to assist with water for the dumpsites. 13:58 Engine 5-1-1 was dispatched along with several other engines to provide additional manpower in the unusually warm 90 degree October weather.
Working Cornfield Fire
10/3/2007 14:08 - 315 Bell Rd, Colerain Township, Brush. LCWC advised Chief 5-1 of approximately 1/2 acre of corn fodder on fire. Chief 5-1 arrived to find a working fire. Engine 5-1-2's crew deployed forestry and hand lines to control the fire. Tanker 5-1 supplied Engine 5-1-2. Tanker 5-7 Quarryville was added on for more water. IUC 14:39. Crews cleared at 15:22.
Dwelling Fire in the Wash House
10/2/2007 21:06 - 172-A Featherbed Ln, Bart Township, Dwelling, stations 5-1 Bart, 5-7 Quarryville & Tanker 5-2-2 Christiana. LCWC advised Chief 5-1 of a fire in the wash house and the residents were evacuating. Engine 5-1-1 arrived pulled the front bumper line and met Chief 5-1. Upon further investigation, the residents were canning for several days. Just as the residents were going to sleep they smelled smoke and found the wash house attached to the house full of smoke. There was significant heat buildup in the chimney causing the attached joists to start smoldering. Truck 5-7 assisted Engine 5-1-2's crew on the roof with chimney inspection. Engine 5-7-2 relocated to station 5-1 and 5-1 units were released. All units cleared at 21:56 hours.

Non-Injury MVA Vehicle Against the House
10/1/2007 17:24 - 1822 Georgetown Rd, Colerain Township, LCWC advised of a vehicle accident possibly involving a horse & buggy with a vehicle into a house. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived to find 1 SUV up the embankment, through a fence and resting against a dwelling with no injuries. EMS was recalled and units cleared a short time later. The driver was extremely lucky. A fence board impaled the driver's side windshield (see bottom right 2 pictures).
Assist Strasburg on Dwellings
8/31/2007 17:01 - 38 Little Beaver Rd, Strasburg Township, full company Assist Station 5-10 Strasburg on a dwelling. LCWC advised that a neighbor sees smoke coming from the house. Deputy 5-10 (Devonshire) arrived to find a working fire. Engine 5-1-1 (2nd in engine) was instructed to lay line from the fire scene down the road to the creek to establish a draft site. Tanker 5-1 arrived and supplied Engine 5-10-2. Engine 5-1-2 (3rd in engine) pulled a backup line to assist the 5-10 crews. All crews worked on overhaul and cleared at 18:59
9/3/2007 01:51 - 101 Summit Hill Rd, Paradise Township, full company Assist Station 5-10 Strasburg on a dwelling. LCWC advised the caller had circuit breakers tripped and smelled smoke. Deputy 5-10 (Devonshire) arrived with nothing showing. Engine 5-1-1 (1st in engine) was instructed to meet Deputy 5-10 with the TIC. Tanker 5-1 and Engine 5-1-2 staged on the road. Units cleared at 02:26 hours.

8/12/2007 20:19 - 966 Valley Rd, Eden Township, full company Assist Station 5-7 Quarryville on a dwelling. Captain 5-7 (Ross) arrived with smoke showing and later reported a room and contents fire. Engine 5-1-1's crew assisted 5-7 with debris removal and ventilation. 5-1 units cleared at 20:55 hours.

8/11/2007 15:58 - Intersection of Route 372 (Valley Rd) & Hollow Rd, Bart Township, vehicle accident class 2, Chief 5-1 (Woerth) was advised by LCWC of a 2 vehicle accident with injuries. Engine 5-1-1's crew arrived, stabilized, depowered and controlled fluids on the roadway. QRS 5-1 arrived and started patient care. Patients were transported to local hospitals. Units cleared at 17:02 hours.

8/8/2007 16:58 - Intersection of White Oak Rd & S. Vintage Rd, Sadsbury Township, vehicle accident with rollover, LCWC advised of a 2 vehicle accident with rollover and everyone out of the vehicle. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived, assumed command and requested 2 more BLS units. Engine 5-1-1's crew arrived, stabilized, depowered and controlled fluids on the roadway. QRS 5-1 arrived and started patient care. Patients were transported to local hospitals. Units cleared at 18:04.
Standby Cover For Longwood Fire Company
8/5/2007 - Today Engine 5-1-1 traveled to station 25 Longwood Fire Company in Chester County. Longwood members were attending an all day engine company operations training exercise. Crews ran a vehicle accident and an auto alarm.
Standby Cover For Avondale Fire Company
8/3/2007 - Today Engine 5-1-1 traveled to station 23 Avondale Fire Company in Chester County from 9 am - 2 pm. Avondale members attended a funeral for lifetime member Anthony John DiJoseph, Sr. Bart crews were assisted by Cochranville Fire Company pumper tanker 27-5.
Vehicle Accident Involving Motorcycle with Fly Out
7/21/2007 19:46 - 391 Christiana Pike, Bart Township, vehicle accident involving a motorcycle. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived to find 2 patients, 1 with an altered level of consciousness and requested an aero medical unit. Engine 5-1-1 arrived and established the landing zone and QRS 5-1's EMT's began medical treatment. Skycare arrived to transport 1 patient to the local trauma center and Amb. 5-2-1 & Medic 6-12-10 transported the other patient.
Assist Strasburg on Working Dwelling Fire
7/21/2007 04:55 - 68 Timber Lane, Paradise Township, full company assist station 5-10 Strasburg Fire Company on a dwelling. Chief 5-10 arrived to find a 30 x 50 cabin behind the old Timberline Lodge well off. Engine 5-1-1 assisted Engine 5-10-2's crew with initial fire suppression. Tanker 5-1 supplied Engine 4-7-1 and Engine 5-1-2 & Squad 5-1's manpower assisted with the overhaul. The fire is under investigation by the PSP Fire Marshall.

7/10/2007 21:39 - Intersection of Georgetown Rd & Keneagy Hill Rd, Paradise Township, vehicle accident. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) went enroute and LCWC advised of a 2 vehicle accident with 1 vehicle into a storage barn and 4 patients involved. Deputy 5-1 (LeFevere) established the command. Engine 5-1-1 & Engine 5-1-2 crews stabilized and controlled hazards. QRS 5-1 EMT's assisted the multiple ALS & BLS units on-scene. Units cleared at 22:40 hours.
Spill Control after the MVA
6/5/2007 15:03 - Intersection of Mine Rd & White Oak Rd, Bart Township for the spill control after an MVA. Engine 5-1-1 arrived under the command of Captain Fisher. Crews control hazards & secured the vehicles. Fire Police assisted with traffic control.
Vehicle Accident and Relocate
5/19/2007 16:53 - Intersection of Hollow & Haiti Roads, vehicle accident, report of 1 vehicle into a tree, non-injury accident. Engine 5-1-1's crew provided hazard control and cleared 10 minutes later. 16:01 hours Engine 5-1-2 transferred to Station 26 Atglen to cover the area due to the barn fire in Station 27 Cochranville's local.
Make A Wish Parade
5/13/2007 - Engine 5-1-1 participated in the annual Make-A-Wish Foundation trucker convoy on Route 222 Sunday. The crew had 2 Make-A-Wish Foundation children Jenna and Sara ride along during the parade.

Engine 5-1-1 Establishes Fill Site at Hydrant in Quarryville Boro
4/30/2007 14:58 - During the last class fire prevention class of the day, Engine 5-1-1 was dispatched to assist station 5-7 Quarryville on a working tractor trailer fire full of hay on Buck Rd. The engine established a hydrant fill site on Fifth St. Crews cleared at 18:39 hours.
Vehicle Accident with Entrapment
04/24/2007 15:45- 1368 Georgetown Rd, Bart Township, vehicle accident with entrapment. LCWC advised Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) of a 2 vehicle accident with 1 entrapped. Rescue 5-7 Quarryville was added on by Chief 5-1-2 for the assist as multiple reports of entrapment and injuries were broadcast. Chief 5-1 (Woerth), OIC Engine 5-1-1, arrived, confirmed 1 entrapped in serious condition and requested a helicopter. Engine 5-1-1's crews: pulled the bumper line, quickly stabilized, cut the roof off and removed the door. Extrication time 9 minutes. The patient was quickly transported to the LZ. Engine 5-1-2 had established the landing zone in an adjacent field for Skycare 1. A second helicopter was requested but none were available. That patient was transported by ground. Witnesses report the Mustang was traveling at excessive speeds. The bread truck carried dry, canned and frozen foods to distribute local Amish farms. The impact ripped the side off the truck and spilled out nearly all of its contents. After the PSP accident reconstruction, Bart Township municipal department brought in a loader and dump truck to dispose of all the goods. Great job to the 5-1 crew and assisting Fire-Rescue, EMS & Fire Police.
April Nor' Easter brings an Overturned Milk Tanker & Public Service
04/16/2007 01:10- 2133 Mine Rd, Bart Township, vehicle accident standby. LCWC advised that a milk truck hit a pole, rolled over and the driver reported no injuries. Units arrived to find downed power wires and a milk truck over turned down the embankment leaking milk. PP&L arrived to de-energize the dangling power lines, Null's Towing of Cochranville arrived up righted the tanker and the Haz-mat 2-9 duty officer was notified. 03/19/2007 12:53- Engine 5-1-1 transfer to Station 21 Union-Oxford. 13:10 - While enroute, Chester County fireboard added Engine 5-1-1 on the 2nd alarm dwelling assignment at 243 Red Pump Rd in West Nottingham Township. Vehicle Accident Involving Fire
03/9/2007 02:41- 166 Lancaster Ave., Bart Township for a vehicle accident involving fire. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived to find a vehicle fully involved. The patient was in a nearby house and treated by QRS 5-1's crew. Crews had a tough time extinguishing the leaking fuel lines up between the frame rails. Crews used water, the pro-pack foam unit and 2 dry chemical extinguishers. IUC 03:16 hours.

03/8/2007 06:42- 350 S. Belmont, Rd, Paradise Township for a dwelling. LCWC advised Chief 5-1 (Woerth) that someone was smoking in bed and they may have the fire extinguished. Chief 5-1 arrived with smoke showing. Engine 5-1-1's crew finished extinguishment, ventilated and overhauled the bedroom. The call was held to 5-1 units. The call was forwarded to the PSP fire Marshall's office.
Minor Crash While Covering for Quarryville on Standby
2/24/2007 - Engine 5-1-1 with a crew of 8 traveled to Station 5-7 Quarryville for a scheduled standby for their Chief Tim Cox's surprise 40th birthday party. Just as we backed into station a vehicle accident was dispatched at 2470 Kirkwood Pike. An SUV overturned on an icy curve. Happy 40th Birthday Tim.

02/20/2007 14:54- Intersection of White Oak Rd & S. Belmont Rd, Paradise Township, Vehicle Accident Class 2. Chief 5-1 (Woerth) arrived to find a 2 vehicle accident and established command. Engine 5-1-1 assisted with hazard control and QRS 5-1 had patient care. Units cleared at 15:52 hours.

02/20/2007 11:53- 134 Jackson Rd, Sadsbury Township, assist station 5-2 Christiana FC for a dwelling. Gap FC Chief 4-2 (Kurtz) arrived to find a small fire believed to be extinguished with a smoke condition. Engine 5-1-1, 1st in, pulled the front bumper line, checked for extension with the TIC and assisted with ventilation. 12:38 Engine 5-1-2 available on scene, transferred to Station 5-2 for standby. Thanks to Quarryville FC Engine 5-7-2 for providing the standby at 5-1.
5-7 "Working" Dwelling Box Full Company Assist
02/19/2007 22:05- 111 Laurel Dr, East Drumore Township, Stations 5-7, 5-1 for a dwelling. LCWC advised Chief 5-7-2 (Ryan) caller stated fire was spreading up the wall to the bedrooms. Lt 5-7-1 (Dalgard) arrived with fire showing side B (Bravo). 5-7 engine crews did a quick knockdown and the tower started ventilation. The house was a balloon type structure. Engine 5-1-1's crew stretched a 3rd line off Engine 5-7-4 to the 2nd floor to find fire in the wall and ceiling. Engine 5-1-2's crew assisted with laddering, ventilation and overhaul. Units cleared at 23:56. Thanks to Engine 4-2-2 Gap Fire Company for the standby.

02/18/2007 10:40- Tanker 5-1 assist Station 7 Port Deposit/Water Witch FC of Md, 832 Bell Manor Rd, on the working dwelling fire. Tanker 5-1 hauled 2 loads of water. Click here for pics & story.
02/19/2007 02:31- Engine 5-1-1 transfer to Station 21 Union Fire Company No. 1 of Oxford 02:53 While enroute to the standby, the engine was requested for manpower to the scene 275 Baltimore Pike Herrs Foods for the tractor trailer fire. A tractor trailer caught fire and was unmovable due to iced up conditions. Access to the trailer was from the rear only and unfortunately the fire was in the front. Multiple crews unloaded the whole trailer by hand in 10 degree weather and wind-chills. The engine cleared at 05:54
Chimney Fire Extending into Dwelling Box
02/16/2007 09:36- 941 Bartville Rd, Bart Township for a dwelling Stations 5-1, 5-7 & Tanker 5-2-2. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) was advised by LCWC the caller sees smoke coming out beside the chimney. Engine 5-1-1's crew found the homeowner cut a hole in the 2nd floor with a chainsaw to expose the fire and extinguished it. Crews checked for extension with the TIC and ventilated. Truck 5-7 checked the chimney for debris. Command held the assignment to station 5-1 & Truck 5-7. Units cleared at 10:17 hours.

2-11-2007 -- It is with deep regret that the Bart Township Fire Company announces the passing of Lloyd G. "Cutie" Fichtner. Lloyd served as Chief of the department from 1951 - 1957.
Tanker Assist and Engine Transfer
02/11/2007 05:13- Tanker 5-1 assist Station 4-10 Witmer F.C. on 2nd alarm building fire at 2420 Gehman Ln, Lapp Electrical Co. 08:50- Engine 5-1-1 transfer Chester Station 33 Honeybrook F.C. while they operated on a multi-alarm building fire. Engine 5-1-1 later transferred to the scene for manpower.
Engine 5-1-1 Transfer to Union Fire Co No. 1 of Oxford then to the Scene
02/08/2007 15:28- Engine 5-1-1 transfer to Station 21 Union Fire Company No. 1 of Oxford for a chimney fire that extended into the dwelling. While enroute to the standby, the Engine was requested to the scene at 36 Somerset Drive in the Canterbury Acres section of West Nottingham Township by Chester County Fireboard. Vehicle Accident Involving Tractor & Trailer with Entrapment
02/07/2007 06:24- Intersection of White Oak Rd & Georgetown Rd, Paradise Township, Station 5-1, Rescue 5-7 Quarryville & Medic 6-12-10 LEMSA. Chief 5-1-2 (Graybill) arrived and established command advising of a 2 vehicle accident involving a propane tanker with 1 patient the driver of the SUV trapped. With that report, Medic 6-12-10 requested a helicopter. Engine 5-1-1 arrived, stabilized the vehicle and started extrication. Engine 5-1-2 was originally assigned to the landing zone but was redirected to assist Engine 5-1-1's crew with fire suppression and extrication. Rescue 5-7 arrived and assisted with their long rams. After helicopter confirmation, command requested Engine 4-7-1 be dispatched to establish a landing zone at the intersection. Crews removed the door, roof and pushed the dash to gain access to the patient. Extrication time was 17 minutes. Just as the patient was loaded into the Ambulance for analysis, Skycare1 arrived and transported the patient to a local hospital. Thanks to all crews involved for braving the 11 degree weather.

2/5/2007 - Congratulations to FF Kevin & Shannon Kreider on the birth of their baby daughter Emileigh Grace. Emileigh was born at 2:13 am, weighed 5 lb 11 oz and was 18" long. Both mom & dad are doing fine. Cards can be sent to 1024 Georgetown Rd, Paradise, PA 17562.

Zone 5 Fire Police Meeting and Awards Presented
2/5/2007- The monthly fire police meeting was held at the station. Bart Township Fire Company fire police received 2 awards for there actions during the week of October 2nd 2006 Amish School shootings. 1 award was from the Zone 5 Fire Police Association and 1 award was from the Lancaster County Fire Police Association.
1st Chimney fire of the New Year
01/30/2007 12:06- 306 Highland Rd, Colerain Township, Chimney, Engine 5-1-1, Tanker 5-1 and Truck 5-7 Quarryville. Chief 5-1(Woerth) arrived and established command. Engine 5-1-1's crew cleaned out the chimney box. Truck 5-7 setup, cleaned & inspected the chimney. Units cleared at 12:47.
Full Company Assist to Paradise on Working Woodshop Fire
01/26/2007 10:15- 113 Blackhorse Rd, Paradise Township, Building, Engine 5-1-1 and Tanker 5-1 due to assist Station 4-7 Paradise. Chief 4-7-3 arrived with a working woodshop fire and upgraded to a 2nd alarm. Engine 5-1-2 was on the 2nd alarm and Squad 5-1 was later dispatched for manpower assist. Engine 5-1-1 laid in from the road via the field. Crews pulled the Blitzfire and multiple hand lines to stop the spread of fire to exposure buildings. Tanker 5-1 shuttled water and Engine 5-1-2 and Squad 5-1 provided manpower.

01/20/2007 - Engine 5-1-1 along with Gap Fire Company who crewed Truck 2-4, transferred to Station 2-4 Eden to provide coverage for there annual banquet. While they didn't run any calls, the crew would like to thank Station 2-4 for the great meal and there hospitality for the evening.

12/11/2006 - Annual Company elections were held this evening. Results can be found by clicking here. President H. Curtis "Buzz" Woerth has stepped down as President after 25 years in this position. John W. Whiteside Jr. (aka Whitey) now holds the position of President. Congratulations to everyone.
1st Call of 2007 -- Working 2 Alarm Dairy Barn Fire
01/03/2007 17:07- 230 Summit Hill Rd, Eden Township, Barn, Chief 5-1 (Woerth) transmitted the 2nd alarm enroute with heavy fire showing from miles out. Engine 5-1-1 laid in to the rear of the barn, setup the Blitzfire and multiple hand lines on sides B & C & D. Tower 5-7 backed in the lane setup at the A /D corner and established master stream operations. Tanker 5-7 arrived and setup as a nurse tanker supplying Engine 5-1-2's hand lines on side A and hand jacked a 4" line back to supply Tower 5-7. Engine 5-10-1 and Engine 4-7-2 each setup a draft site for tanker shuttle. The 2nd site was shut down after the fire was placed under control. 6 tankers were running the shuttle. Manpower was in excess of 125 personnel. Crews went to work immediately pulling tin and debris. The incident was placed under control at 18:30 hours. A track hoe and bobcat quickly arrived and cleared out the hay barn, fallen tin and burnt up farm equipment. Crews saved the exposure tobacco barn, residence, milk house contents and attached silo. PSP Fire Marshall was on-scene conducting and investigation. Units cleared at 22:00 hours after pulling a stuck Engine 5-1-1 out of the yard. Great job to all. Thanks to the standby companies for cleaning up the hose.

Setup Landing Zone for Skycare 1
01/06/2007 12:12- Intersection of Heyberger Rd & Dry Wells Rd, Bart Township, setup landing zone for Skycare 1. QRS 5-1 was dispatched earlier for an injured person from a fall. Medics arrived and requested the patient be flown out.
