It is with deep regret the Bart Township Fire Company announces the passing of life member John T. "Whitey" Whiteside Jr.
Thu, Jun 22nd, 2017 12:00:00 am - It is with deep regret the Bart Township Fire Company announces the passing of life member John T. "Whitey" Whiteside Jr.

Whitey passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017 after a brief illness.
Whitey joined the Bart Township Fire Company in 1979 and served 38 faithful years. Whitey fulfilled many roles over the years, although most times he could be found in the drivers seat of the apparatus.  Whitey served as an EMT on the QRS, Assistant Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, President and most recently served as the Chief Engineer. He also was an integral part of the Bart Mud Sale.

John T. "Whitey" Whiteside, Jr., age 58, of Bart, PA, passed away at his home on Thursday, June 22, 2017. He was born in Lancaster, son of John T. Whiteside, Sr. and the late Shirley A. Mendenhall Whiteside. He graduated from Octorara High School class of 1976. He owned and operated Maple Lane Stables and Whiteside Livestock Hauling. He also worked at the New Holland Sales Stables. Whitey was a member of the Bart Township Fire Company for over 39 years, currently serving as Chief Engineer. In the past he was Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief and President. He loved horses. Surviving besides his father are 2 daughters: Jennifer wife of Don Church of Drumore, Amanda wife of Josh Touchton of Quarryville, 6 grandchildren: Lane, Harleigh, Lillie & Daisy Church , and Hunter & Mallie Touchton, 2 siblings: Robert husband of Evelyn Hall Whiteside of Norristown, Diane wife of H. Curtis Woerth, II of Quarryville. He was preceded in death by a son Christopher T. Whiteside. Funeral service will take place from the Bart Township Fire Company, 11 Furnace Road, Quarryville, PA on Wednesday, June 28th at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ike L. Lapp officiating. Interment will take place in the Colerain Baptist Cemetery, Kirkwood, PA. There will be a viewing at the Bart Twp. Fire Company on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Bart Twp.
