900 Block of Vintage Road
At 2:38pm Wednesday afternoon, BTFC and mutual aid were dispatched to the 900 block of Vintage Road for a reported commercial building fire. First arriving units encountered a large commercial building with fire showing from the roof. Crews were met with difficult conditions due to the multiple additions on the building that complicated suppression efforts.
Engine 51-2 positioned on the front side of the building and began fire attack, followed soon after by Truck 57 (Quarryville). Engine 51-1 utilized a field driveway to access the back of the building, followed soon by Truck 42 (Gap). Tanker 51 set up the nurse tanker operation at the intersection of Vintage Road and Valley Road.
The fire started in a diesel engine power room, which was positioned against the main fire building as well as a smaller barn. While fire spread to both buildings, aggressive firefighting held the fire to the attic space of the small barn and prevented fire from spreading into the large addition on the main fire building as well as from the residential structure that was only about 10 feet away from the main building.
Thanks to all of our mutual aid for their assistance today and all those who helped with this incident in some way.
